Alpha 1–4 are the earliest known versions of Streets of Rogue as posted to TIGSource Forums. Changelogs were not being posted until Alpha 5, so not many details are available regarding these first four versions/releases, information about these is found in "The Making of Streets of Rogue" commentary accompanied by the first six builds of the game[1].
“ | Streets of Rogue is a rogue-lite about player choice, freedom, and anarchic fun. The game takes inspiration from fast-paced top-down rogue-lites like Binding of Isaac and Nuclear Throne, and adds free-form, experimentation-driven, emergent gameplay elements of RPGs like Deus Ex. | ” | – Matt Dabrowski (madguy90) |
