Auto-Aim is a game mechanic in Streets of Rogue. Designed to help and assist players to hit targets more accurately with Projectile Weapons by locking on to the closest target, It happens more often (and more accurately) based on the Player's Firearms attribute. However this system is not as perfect and sometimes manually aiming your shots is sometimes better in some situations. This setting can be disabled in settings to manually aim instead.
This will also explain the Pros and Cons with Auto-Aim and Manual-Aiming.
Auto-Aim[ | ]
Pros[ | ]
- Easily locks on to targets
- Can save some ammunition
- Very useful with the Pistol and the Machinegun
- Reduces the risk of friendly fire
- Easily hits Enemies strafing or circling to dodge your shots
Cons[ | ]
- Locks to the closest person than your intended target
- Also sometimes targets Neutral than Hostile targets
- Doesn't lock into objects such as Laser Emitters or Exploding Barrels when a person is close by
- Can be bad if Auto-Aim makes you shoot a dangerous NPC such as a Supercop or a Upper-Cruster even if you didn't intend to
Manual Aim[ | ]
Pros[ | ]
- Can lessen the chance of friendly fire or collateral damage in hands of skilled players
- Very powerful with Water Pistols, Shrink Rays and Freeze Rays especially with Penetrating Bullets
- Allows for long range sniping without interpretation from nearby pedestrians
- Players with trigger-discipline or with patience can save ammunition for weapons
- Allows you to shoot and aim at objects easily such as Switches, Slime & Exploding Barrels
Cons[ | ]
- Requires skill and practice
- Trying to hit strafing or fast enemies dodging your shots can be problematic
- Can be a bit difficult when using a controller
- Trigger-happy players can easily waste a lot of ammunition with their weapon or hit random people if they're not careful
- Missed shots can sometimes hit walls or windows which will alert people and guards, even with a silenced weapon. Unless you have Secret Vandalizer
Tips and Strategies[ | ]
Both[ | ]
- Some guns will be better when using Auto-Aim or with Manual-Aim. The Machinegun is excellent with Auto-Aim while some weapons like the Tranquilizer Gun or the Rocket Launcher is better when Manually Aiming, depending on the situation.
Manual Aim[ | ]
- When there's a group of targets near a Slime or a Exploding Barrel, it's better to shoot the barrel to poison or heavily damage the group of enemies.
- In general aiming aids should be used mostly only when playing with a controler where aiming is way slower.
Notes[ | ]
- Even when disabled theres a small amount of auto-aim at all times, this can be noticed if you do melee attacks close to NPCs since your character will turn to where the NPC is, this also applies to Special Abilities like Chloroform Hankie and Sticky Glove.
- This "melee auto-aim" does not get better with the melee stat.
