The Clerk is an NPC. They wear a green uniform with a name-tag, and serve as business owners for many different business types.
NPC[ | ]
Clerks are typical business owner NPCs, so they react negatively to traits like Suspicious, Malodorous and Wanted. Most Clerks don't do anything special other than this, although Clerks that spawn in Banks, Hospitals, Hotels, Movie Theaters and Deportation Centers have special functions as does the Clerk at the City Hall in Mayor Village. Clerks fight using pistols or with their fists against characters that anger them or attack them.
Clerks in Banks can loan the player money $50 at a time at 25% interest per floor (including the floor the loan is bought from capped at 100% interest), and receive repayment for the resulting Debt. Hospital Clerks will allow you to donate blood in exchange for money three times per floor, sacrificing 20 Health for $20 each time. Clerks in Movie Theaters sell overpriced Food. Clerks in Hotels rent out rooms.
If you get caught by a Cop Bot and deported to a Deportation Center, you can bribe the Clerk to safely exit the building if you want to avoid a fight with the 2 Supergoons guarding the inside of the Center and the Bouncers guarding the exit outside. If the Clerk is already Friendly, Loyal or Aligned towards you, they'll let you out of the building free of charge. You can talk to these Clerks even if you have Suspicious, Malodorous or Wanted.
The Clerk at the City Hall has the Mayor Visitor's Badge that allows you to talk to the Mayor. You can either bribe them with an Item, pay $300, kill them, or threaten them for it. If the clerk is Loyal or Aligned, you can ask for it politely instead. This Clerk can also start the process of Running for Mayor, but only if the Computer at the City Hall is intact and the Mayor isn't Hostile towards you.
Clerks also run Bars, Casinos, Music Halls and Dance Clubs in Uptown and in Mayor Village. Clerks replace Bartenders in these levels due to the enforced prohibition of alcohol and don't sell anything in these roles.

Tips and Strategies[ | ]
- Clerks are generally easy targets and have 1 Endurance, but they do have 3 Firearms and sometimes spawn with a Pistol. Depending on the business type, Clerks may spawn with bodyguards such as Goons - it can be dangerous to take on an armed Clerk and their Goons at the same time.
- Their low health makes them very vulnerable to just about everything, including being Poisoned.
- Clerks are Annoyed by Suspicious, Malodorous or Wanted characters if they see them, but the other characters in their building - Goons, Doctors, Firefighters, etc. - won't mind their presence unless the Clerk spots them inside the building. If the Clerk does see one of these characters, everyone they are Aligned with will become Annoyed at the character. If you need to make use of services in buildings owned by a Clerk, stay out of their sight or turn them Friendly.
- Office Drones are also Annoyed by these types of characters, so entering an Office or Broadcast Station can be a bad idea unless you have used Cologne.
- Clerks who provide Optional Missions won't automatically become Annoyed by seeing a player with one of these traits.

- Out of all of the Characters in the game, the Clerk has the second-most dialogue due to their many different roles. Only the Slum Dweller has more unique lines.
