The Cop is an NPC and playable character. They wear old-fashioned police uniforms complete with a badge and a blue peaked cap.
The Cop is unlocked by bribing 3 cops. This can be done over multiple runs.
Super Special Ability[]
- Become a Supercop, gaining +2 Endurance, +1 Speed, +1 Melee and +1 Firearms.
- No XP loss for arresting, stealing from, killing, or knocking out innocents.
NPC[]
The Cop is an NPC that patrols Slums 2 and 3, Industrial, and Downtown floors; Cop presence increases as you progress through these floors, with Downtown having a very large number of them. They attack anyone they catch breaking the law. They always have a Police Baton or a Pistol in their hands. All Cops are allied and friendly with Supercops; they will assist each other, attacking lawbreakers with deadly force. Bribing a Cop or paying off corruption debt as a Mobster will give you the effect Above the Law, which causes all Cops on the floor to ignore your crimes. The base price of bribing the Cops is $50.
Cops will consider characters lawbreakers if they are caught:
- Stealing from an NPC or NPC-owned items.*
- Breaking property more than 3 times (cops become annoyed after 2nd object broken, then hostile after the 3rd).
- Attacking NPCs as a non-property owner.
- Being hit or aggroed onto by a property owner made hostile by intrusion on their property. Characters attacking other characters for this reason are not marked guilty.
*Taking items dropped by dead NPCs does not count as stealing. Taking items from a dead NPC's storage containers does, however
Cops are aligned with all other Cops and friendly towards Supercops.
In Lockdown Disaster levels, Cops become Hostile toward any non-Law Enforcers walking the streets on sight.
Cops are replaced by Supercops in Uptown and beyond.

Tips and Strategies[]
Playable[]
- How to fight: Use Handcuffs as often as possible, but remember that bystanders aligned with the arrested person will become hostile. Stay with other Cops for support. Do not hesitate to fight if necessary, but be careful - your stats aren't incredible. You will want to prefer guns in serious encounters as your Firearm stat is better than your Melee stat.
- How to finish a mission: Try to arrest guilty NPCs whenever possible. Handcuffs are a great way to get extra XP - not just because arresting is worth more than killing, but also to get the Killed No One mission bonus for extra XP. Use noise to divide and conquer foes who are too close to each other.
- Don't be afraid to steal food for healing, as only 10 XP is lost by stealing. Cops can steal from guilty NPCs without penalty, so make sure to do so.
- If having trouble with the Big Quest, players can create guilty NPC's by leading a Crepe to a Blahd or getting an NPC to hit another NPC by mistake. The law doesn't care about intent, only action.
- Try to get No In-Fighting as it prevents you from accidentally hitting other Cops and vice-versa.
- Crooked and its advanced form, Crooked+, are the highest priority traits for a Cop as they reduce or eliminate the XP penalties for hostile actions against innocents. With Crooked+ you can generally arrest most NPCs on each floor for their loot without much trouble.
- The Cop will have an easier time gaining Electability than most other characters since floors other than Slums 1 and the Park floors will be filled with Aligned Cops or Friendly Supercops. Take care to defend them if you care about Electability, and use your ability to arrest people to free slaves, Gorillas, and prisoners if you still need a few points of Electability for the floor.
- Cop Bots are Neutral to you despite being law enforcement, and will still deport Cop players. Supercops will side with Cop Bots in a fight, so be careful to avoid them.
- Extra XP and Big Quest progress can be earned by breaking prisoners out of jail and then arresting them, as they are marked guilty right after the door opens.
- Take every opportunity to acquire a Freeze Ray or Taser. Since anyone who attacks the Cop is automatically guilty, having one of these two items allows the Cop to incapacitate them with more than enough time to arrest them.
- Banana peels also work when arresting attackers. However, Paralyzer Traps and other sources of Paralysis don't, as the Paralyzed person is still able to face you and attack.
NPC[]
- The Cop's Attributes are standard, shared with the Gangster and Mobster. However, they often patrol in groups that are hard to separate and they will attack lawbreakers in groups. Despite their individual weakness, they should not be underestimated.
- Physically weaker Characters like the Doctor and Comedian fare poorly against groups of them, and are better off not angering them. The Doctor can slowly take apart the Cop presence on a floor by catching them alone and knocking them out, but other physically weak characters may need to simply avoid breaking the law in their sight or spend money on bribes.
Quotes[]
General chat:[]
- Keep your nose clean, citizen!
- Does this bloodstain on my shirt make me look badass?
- Psssst, I can be bribed easily! REAL easily!
- If you break the law, can you do it in front of me? Makes my job easier.
- There's no corruption in our department, only mild crookedness.
Upon being Bribed:[]
- If player is alone: Alright, we'll turn the other way for your future misdeeds.
- If player has followers in the party: Alright, we'll turn the other way for you and your scuzzy friends.
- If player talks to a Cop after bribing, is an Upper-Cruster or has the Upper-Crusty trait: We got yer back.
At the Homebase:[]
- Relax, I'm not gonna arrest you. Actually I've never made an arrest, I just murder people.
Notes[]
- It is possible to stage a Cop v. Supercop battle by attacking a Supercop enough as a Cop. Other Cops will help you out and other Supercops will attack you. This will not work if you are a Supercop, as all cops are aligned with you. Usually this isn't very useful, as the two types of NPCs can only co-exist in Downtown, but if you really need a better gun it might come in handy.
Trivia[]
- Cops will not hesitate to haphazardly spray gunfire at the player, often resulting in the death or injury of random bystanders. Opinions on how reflective this behavior is of real life may vary, but most find that abhorrent and unethical.
- In the early Chinese version of the game, all law enforcers were changed and renamed, Cops were called No-Fun Enforcers and wore magenta uniforms and fezzes instead of blue uniforms and peaked police caps.
- In the Chinese Version of the game, the cops are renamed into sheriffs, with brown uniforms and a special hat. However, the cops' uniforms are changed back into cops in an update, although their names are still sheriff, and their legs are still brown.
