Disaster Levels are special events that happen every third floor (Slums 1-3, Industrial 1-3, Park 1-3, Downtown 1-3, Uptown 1-3). Most first appear in the Slums, but some are found later in the game. They are intended to change the Player's approach/strategy and provide a challenge.

- Disasters will generally force the Player to act quickly and decisively, unlike non-Disaster levels where planning and/or experimentation is typically advisable or to make the game something else.
- Due to the nature of some disasters, certain ones cannot occur in specific Districts (see table below).
- Teleporting is usually disabled during a disaster. However, the Player can Teleport within a Disaster level if one of the following is true:
- The Player has Teleport-Happy
- The threat has been removed (e.g. Every Cop has been neutralized in Police Lockdown)
Modification via Mutators[]
Through the use of Mutators, it's possible to:
- Force disasters on all floors (Disasters Every Level)
- Prevent specific disasters from occurring (Remove Disaster)
- Disable disasters entirely (No Disasters)
Disaster-Like Mutators[]
The following Mutators have effects similar to Disasters:
- Zombies Ate My Game Balance — this is functionally the same as Zombies (Disaster), it's just not flagged as a Disaster in terms of affecting other core game mechanics (such as preventing Teleport or only occurring every 3rd floor).
