Ethical Experiments is the Big Quest for the Scientist (and can also be chosen for Custom Characters).
In this quest, on each floor you must inflict a specific random status effect on an NPC of a specific class, and then use your Research Gun on them for several seconds to scan them.
Notes[]
- Each floor, there will be a Crate containing an item with the needed status effect. It will be marked with an orange arrow on your map.
- If all NPCs of the target type happen to die or are otherwise neutralized, the quest objective will change to a different NPC type.
Super Special Ability[]
While playing as the Scientist after completing Ethical Experiments, with Super Special Abilities (Mutator) enabled:
- Research Gun causes negative status effects. Each NPC can only be affect ONCE by the Research Gun.
- When you start the game with Super Special Abilities mutator enabled, you will begin with 3 Critter Uppers, 3 Muscly Pulls, 3 Electro Pills, 3 Killer Thrower pills, 3 additional Giantizers, and 3 additional Rage Poison.
Tips and Strategies[]
- This quest is somewhat hard to complete. This is because it has the most steps to complete per level of any Big Quest.
- It is always worth search for the supply crate. Even if you don't need the drug at the moment, it might be useful later on. The supply crate also has a minimap indicator.
- Usually, you will need to use your Water Pistol to inflict the status effect on the NPC. YOU CAN ONLY RELOAD YOUR WATER PISTOL IF IT IS EMPTY! Make sure you shoot all the ammo out of your Water Pistol before you try to load it or you will accidentally waste the status effect item!
- NPCs will notice you shooting them with the Water Pistol. However, positive status effects and the Research Gun will not turn a neutral NPC Hostile. In certain circumstances, you might be able to complete the floor objective without bloodshed.
- If you know an NPC is going to become Hostile and has allies, try to reduce their numbers or lure the NPC far away from their allies before trying to do your research.
- Use your Freeze Ray to prevent your target from moving before you infect and research them. NPCs with ranged weapons or the Shrunk status will cause the NPC to run away, making research difficult.
- You may replace it with a taser, if you find one.
- Inventory space will become an issue as the game goes on because you will need your Research Gun, Water Pistol, and a status effect item to complete the floor objective.
- Currently, there is a bug with the supply crate where NPCs will get stuck on it because their pathing AI doesn't recognize that the crate is there and they will not attempt to move around the supply crate. Because of this, you might end up having to fight one or more NPCs because you will be unable to open the crate without hitting them.
