The Gorilla is a both an NPC and playable character in Streets of Rogue.
The Gorilla can be unlocked by freeing any Gorilla NPC from a science lab.
NPC
Gorillas can spawn on any level, locked in cages inside science labs or inside of zoos. These gorillas will become loyal if freed and will immediately attempt to kill any Scientists who are their Rivals who locked them up in the lab, and the scientists will in turn, attempt to do the same to the gorillas.
Gorillas can also be recruited at no cost by a gorilla player and those freed from science labs will automatically join the player's party. Non-gorillas players will need a Translator and a Banana in order to recruit them to follow them.
In combat, gorillas will attempt to use Primal Lunge to do extra damage with their Fists or with any melee weapon they picked up.
Gorillas can also spawn around the Park level wandering around or inside of Caves or in Cabins and they will become Annoyed at the player if they enter their home or Hostile if they see a gorilla being attacked or a Scientist.
Also a gorilla can also appear inside of a Mall running a store in Downtown and Uptown selling a single Banana, however you require a Translator in your inventory as a Non-gorilla character, but if you're playing as a Gorilla, using Cologne or removing Malodorous via by using a Augmentation Booth will allow you to buy from the Gorilla in the store without getting shooed out of the Mall by the Supergoons.
Tips and Strategies
- How to fight: Gorillas have a large amount of health and hit fairly hard, even without weapons. Start fights with Primal Lunge to do as much damage as possible.
- How to finish a mission: Vocally Challenged is going to limit your ability to complete missions. Most of the time you will have to fight. However, when it comes to the Gorilla, there is strength in numbers. All gorillas are automatically Loyal to you. Try to go out of your way to keep 3 Gorillas with you if you can.
- How to unlock: It's very easy to unlock the Gorilla, one can just simply neutralize all the Scientists to free the gorilla, or you can hack the Computer and unlock the door. You don't need to escort the gorilla out of the level or have it survive, you just need to free one out of the cage.
- Science labs are great for raiding. The Scientists are a good source for XP, the Gorillas inside cost nothing to recruit, and the fridge in the lab might have a Banana in it.
- Use Primal Lunge to start fights, attack ranged enemies, or chase fleeing foes. With the right weapon, the damage might be enough to instantly kill enemies or break walls, windows, and other objects that are normally too strong to destroy outright. You can move and even turn around while charging up Primal Lunge.
- Find a Translator as soon as possible. Being able to talk means you can buy items from Drug Dealers, get optional missions, and bribe Bouncers.
- If you can't find a Translator. You can remove Vocally Challenged with a Augmentation Booth if you have $600 cash to do so.
- Malodorous is going to keep you from buy items from most shopkeepers, even with a Translator. Remember that you can still buy Bananas from a Loadout-O-Matic machines.
- As with most game changing characters, Augmentation Booths are the main thing you are going to spend your cash into, either by getting rid of Stubby Fingers, or removing Malodorous and Vocally Challenged to talk and buy from vendors while also opening more options towards Missions.
