The Investment Banker is an NPC and playable character. They wear a dress shirt and dress pants with a blue tie and red suspenders.
They're unlocked by holding $500 at once in a run.
Super Special Ability[]
- Feelin' Alright makes the Investment Banker euphoric, giving multiple positive status effects. When Feelin' Alright, the Investment Banker also gains: Fast, Killer Thrower (Status Effect), Resist Damage (Medium), and Accurate.
NPC[]
Investment Bankers can be found as generic Citizens in Uptown wandering the streets or in some buildings.
Quotes[]
- "Got any cash? No reason, I'd just rather I have it than you." (General Chat)
- "Money can't buy happiness, but it also can't buy clouds. Profound thoughts!"
- "My Uncle Denny told me to invest in gas. Then he farted on me."
- "I made a very large bet on you dying via accidental Cyanide Pill ingestion." (General Chat at the Home base)
Tips and Strategies[]
- Unlocking: Play as the Hacker. Gather up some money, $100 or more. Find a building with slot machines and using your Laptop, hack the slot machines to increase your chances of winning, then gamble with the slot machine. The odds are fairly high that you will gain more money than you lose; simply repeat this on another floor if you still need money.
- Since owners witnessing Hackers while hacking become Hostile, try to hack from afar to prevent being attacked.
- Getting the Four-leaf Clover will increase chances of winning and can sometimes be purchased for 2 Nuggets before starting, so it may prove to be helpful.
- There isn't really any reason to go out of your way to unlock this character. You will eventually have a run successful enough that you will end up with much more than $300.
- How to fight: The Investment Banker's combat ability is above average, and with the proper weapons they can end fights quickly. Bankers don't have time to get into fistfights with every Gangster they come across, however, so choose your targets wisely.
- How to finish missions: Do whatever is fastest to complete missions. Bankers shouldn't waste resources if they don't have to, since time is not on their side. Be quick so you can avoid withdrawal.
- The main gimmick of the Investment Banker is Addict. With this trait, you will have to use drugs at least once per minute to avoid taking damage. Make sure to check Drug Dealers to see if they have any good drugs to use, and kill Scientists for the chance at a Syringe drop.
- It's best to complete levels as quickly as possible. Favor using Sugar and Fast Syringes to speed up missions, and teleport to save time when possible.
- Stock up on drugs and Cigarettes when possible, as prices are cheaper in the earlier levels and Drug Dealers are rare past the Park.
- Some good, cheap drugs are Sugar, Muscly Pills, and positive Syringes.
- In Industrial, there are factories that are constantly spewing gas. Touching gas resets the withdrawal counter, although it can be hazardous to your health.
- In the Park, Uptown, and Mayor Village, Water Pumps can be used to create bodies of water that give status effects. These ponds can be used over and over, so bankers can save drugs by using pumps to stave off Withdrawal.
- If in a pinch, players can use a Syringe with a negative status effect; stand next to a toilet, use the syringe, and then use the toilet to immediately purge the negative status effect. Note that this won't stop the effects of Sulfuric Acid, as it immediately inflicts 20 points of damage, and it won't save you from Cyanide.
- Upgrade Shrewd Negotiator as soon as possible to cut down on drug and item costs.
- Upgrading Longer Status Effects can also be a good choice, as it makes Cigarettes and other drugs hold off withdrawal for 33% longer and builds off positive drug’s stat boosts.
- Withdrawal cannot kill, and stops dealing damage when you are at 20 health or lower.
- Using multiple drugs doesn't stack. Every drug used will reset the Feelin' Alright timer back to 60 seconds.
- Cigarettes instead freeze the timer for 30 seconds.
- Though usually fine monetarily, Bankers might run into some financial troubles due to their drug habit. If you are ever too low on money to buy drugs or other needed items, talk to Vendors and borrow money with Moocher.
- Try to avoid a situation where your Debt keeps piling up, though, or hostile Assassins will start hunting you. Bankers may be strong fighters, but anyone can take severe damage from them, as they can appear unexpectedly and are capable of performing backstabs.
- Upgrading Longer Status Effects helps greatly for saving money in the long term.
Trivia[]
- Resist Damage (Medium) is only available via the Investment Banker's Super Special Ability. There is no other way to get this status effect in the game.
- In the Localization files the investment banker was originally called Businessman.
- A remnant of this can be seen when attempting to name a custom character "Businessman". It will be disallowed, saying "Your character's name is already taken by an existing character!". Strangely, this is not the case when naming a custom character "Investment Banker".
- When Big Quests were implemented, the Investment Banker's Big Quest was similar to the Slum Dweller - they had to raise money to be treated for their addiction, and at the end of the Quest they went to a doctor to have their addiction cured. In the current version, Investment Bankers cannot cure their addiction and must simply stave off Withdrawal.
- The Investment Banker at Home Base made a "very large bet" on the player dying via accidental Cyanide Pill ingestion, however this was made impossible in Alpha 70b.
- However the Investment Banker can still win his bet however if the player accidentally ingests a Cyanide Cocktail made using the Drink Mixer.
