The Laser Emitter is a hazardous object in Streets of Rogue. They always spawn in pairs, and create a laser between them. The effect of the laser depends on the color.
With the trait Graceful, players are able to pass through the laser(s) without triggering them.
Variants[ | ]
Yellow[ | ]
When triggered, the Laser Emitter sets off an alarm that's always heard by the owner of the area, as well as any guards inside.
Red[ | ]
When triggered, both Laser Emitters will blow up with a small explosion, dealing 30 damage over a 5-tile-wide area and making noise, usually alerting the building inhabitants.
Blue[ | ]
When triggered, the Laser Emitter will set off an alarm that alerts the owner of the area and any guards inside. Unlike the yellow laser, you can freely pass through blue lasers if you aren't carrying weapons. There's always at least one Bouncer in front of a blue laser, and you can talk to them to temporarily drop your weapons in order to freely pass through the laser.
Disabling/Destroying[ | ]
There are multiple ways to remove the threat of a Laser Emitter, and thus its laser.
- Note that even a disabled Red Emitter WILL STILL EXPLODE if later destroyed via direct damage to it.
Damage[ | ]
Destroying the emitter via direct damage, for example with melee or firearms. The easiest way, but will make noise. This isn't a very safe solution for red laser emitters, as they will always explode, but sometimes the explosions they make can be a great way to neutralize someone or to destroy walls.
Computer[ | ]
Any character with the Tech Expert trait can disable all lasers in a building by accessing a computer. Characters without the Tech Expert trait can still disable the security system by destroying the computer, but this will make noise.
Wrench / EMP[ | ]
- A Wrench can disable the Laser Emitter by using it on the emitter. This makes no noise, but it does cost 30 Durability points on the Wrench. Additionally, if a Bouncer or the owner of the area sees you trying to disable the Lasers, they'll instantly become Hostile towards the player.
- The lasers can also be disabled by blasting it with EMP either with a EMP Grenade or from Power Sap. If the owner sees this happen, they will become hostile.
