Manholes are a hazardous object in Streets of Rogue which appear on Downtown floors. Each Manhole on the map has a chance to contain a hostile Cannibal, or a Thief ready to Pickpocket the player. They may also contain nothing, in which case they effectively become nothing more than a decorative object. It is not possible to know which will occur before approaching.
Effects[ | ]
When the player approaches a Manhole, the NPC contained within, if applicable, jumps out at the player.
- Followers and NPCs cannot activate Manholes.
- Manholes that contain a Cannibal will not activate if the player has the Cool with Cannibals trait. Similarly, Manholes that contain a Thief will not activate if the player has Honor Among Thieves.
- This effectively removes the NPC from existence in Single-player, as they cannot be removed from the Manhole by any other means.
Once the NPC has left the Manhole, the Manhole's cover is removed and it then acts as a hole.
Cannibal[ | ]
Cannibals spawned in a Manhole are initially Hostile to only the Player, and always wield an Axe.
Thief[ | ]
Thieves spawned in a Manhole are not initially Hostile, but will immediately attempt to Pickpocket the player and will become Hostile and flee, whether they successfully Pickpocket the player or are deterred with a counter-attack.
Notes[ | ]
- Like other NPCs, NPCs hiding in the Manhole have a chance to be Possessed by a Shapeshifter.
- The player attacking an NPC that jumps out at them is not illegal, even if the player makes the first strike.
