Speed: 3

Upper-Crusty

The Mayor is an NPC and the primary antagonist in Streets of Rogue. They resemble an Upper-Cruster with a red vest and spawn wearing the Mayor's Hat.

NPC[]

The Mayor only appears in the Mayor Village and must be dealt with to retrieve their Mayor's Hat to complete the game. Because they are part of the Give Speech mission, they are always displayed on the minimap and will have a red arrow pointing to them with the text "GET HAT" above their head.

  • When the player reaches the Mayor Village they will find the Mayor performing one of the following activities:
  • Walking around the Mayor Village.
  • Walking around the interior of City Hall, examining various objects. Their path will eventually lead them outside the Security Doors for a small time.
  • Inside a large house watching Television.
  • Inside a large house sleeping in a Bed.
  • Swimming in an indoor pool.
  • Dancing inside a Dance Club.
  • Sitting at a table inside a Bar.

Regardless of their activity, the Mayor will never be very far away from their security detail. The security detail is made up of 5 Supercops armed with Machineguns that have special AI which makes them follow the Mayor. They will ignore normal crimes to stay by Mayor's side. The Mayor is Aligned with all Supercops and any direct attack against the Mayor will make law enforcement Hostile. The player can only approach the Mayor while wearing the Mayor Visitor's Badge. Without it, a nearby Supercop will warn the player to step away from the Mayor. Failing to do so will make the Mayor and their security detail Hostile. If the Mayor is Hostile, he will attempt to run, like an Upper-Cruster, from any danger as the security detail attacks the threat. Afterwards, the Mayor will either walk around the Mayor Village or try to return to their previous activity if possible.

Notes[]

  • Because the Mayor is a mission target, they cannot be Possessed by the Shapeshifter.
  • It is possible to buy the Mayor's Hat with the trait Art of the Deal. It's not cheap though, costing you upwards of $1500! Make sure that with this trait, find a Sell-O-Matic to sell as much things as you can, specifically the most expensive you are holding so that you can try to make it up for this purchase of around 250-300$ total, do note with the No Limits mutator, the Sell-O-Matic will then have no limit to the amount you can sell.
  • The Assassin is ideal for killing the Mayor. They may camouflage and backstab the Mayor before nabbing the hat and leaving.'
  • For Supercop players, they can be near the Mayor anytime they want, likely due to working with the Mayor and the Supercops.
  • Because of this alignment Supercop players can use this to their advantage to get the hat, though this has a low chance upon succeeding.
  • Alternatively you can use the Hypnotizers (Disambiguation) to befriend the Mayor, still, getting the hat would depend on chance.
  • If Supercops are loyal due to the player's character's Upper-Crusty trait or by using a Supercop, they can freely get close to the mayor.

Quotes[]

  • "See my office clerk, you'll need a badge to speak with moi." (The Mayor refusing to speak to the player without wearing a Mayor Visitor's Badge)
  • "Greeting, lowly citizen!." (General Chat)
  • "You're not required to bow, but it sure would make me feel special!"
  • "I feel naked without my hat..." (Speaking to the Mayor without him wearing his Hat)

Trivia[]

  • Even though the Mayor is not Playable Character he has Whiskey as a starting item.
  • If the Mayor is zombified and then spoken to, you will be be able to buy from his shop. Presumably, the shop would hold his hat, but since all items are dropped on death, the Mayor's shop is empty.
  • As the Mayor only spawns as the mission target in Mayor Village and cannot be possessed (and therefore cloned using the Clone Machine), multiple Mayors cannot be encountered in a single run. They are the only NPC class with this distinction.
