Multiplayer is a game mode that supports both splitscreen and online co-op (or vs, if you want, but it wasn't really built for it). It plays mostly identically to single player gameplay, except that you can revive teammates when they die for the base price of 60, or one half of your current hp. Reviving with money will fully heal them upon resurrection, but reviving with hp will only heal for as much health was lost by the resurrector.
things to note:[]
- no in-fighting: no in-fighting has an unlisted effect in this mode, that being you cannot directly hit other players, under any circumstance.
- enslave: while you can taze other players, it is impossible to enslave them.
- water pistol and cyanide pill: when using the water gun with cyanide pill as ammo, you can instantly kill them, no matter how much health they have. It is unadvised you use this combination of items within the proximity of other players, unless you are actively trying to kill them.
- Chloroform Hankie and Tranquilizer Gun: Other players can be knocked out for roughly ten seconds in the same way you knock out NPCs. In this time, the player will be unable to move or act in any way, including not getting up upon hit. Upon waking back up, they gain a large chunk of health (30-60). NPCs that were hostile to the player WILL STILL ATTACK, so avoid using this in the way of anyone hostile to them.
- inferno assailant : fires caused by other players are not considered fires you caused, and therefore give you XP for dousing them.
- fire watch (Firefighter's big quest): fires caused by other players does not count towards you failing your big quest, only arsonists do.
- medical professional : medical professional cannot be used to 'administer treatment' to other players or (correct me if I'm wrong on this) their followers.
- drug-a-lug and syringes: using a syringe (or finding out its effect in a different way) does not give other players the knowledge of that syringe's effect.
- time dilation: In multiplayer, there is no way to trigger a time dilate of any variety (except for the screen splitting in splitscreen multiplayer).
- item pools : in online multiplayer, the item pool used for quest rewards is always the host's, and any items that the peers haven't unlocked can still appear in the pool.
- blaster survivor: any explosions made by other players will not effect you.
- cool with cannibals : cool with cannibals only effects the person with the trait, while every other player will still have default aggressive cannibals.
- Zombie's Allies : Any zombies that the player creates directly with Zombie Phlegm will be allied with all players, any zombies created through the Zombiism trait will be hostile to all players except the Zombie. Zombiism will activate even if the affected NPC is killed by another player, and the resulting zombie will be hostile to all characters but the Zombie player. If playing online with a Zombie, be wary of NPCs and do not pass them off as "dead" until you have waited at least a few seconds for them to become a zombie.
- Zombie phlegm : players cannot gain the status effect DNA connection, or be infected by Zombiism, for that matter.
