Noise is a game mechanic in Streets of Rogue. This mechanic allows NPCs to be alerted to certain actions made by the Player that can make noise.
Characteristics[ | ]
If a noise is played, all nearby NPCs will face that direction regardless of whether they are in a building, but if you make noise in a building in a place where the owner can't see, he will go to that place and all the default NPCs that come with the building.
Actions[ | ]
- Any wall hit unless you have Secret Vandalizer
- An explosion
- The Loud trait.
- Use Handcuffs, Enslave, Bite, Joke and Water Cannon.
- Some actions that are executed by loading the Operating Bar unless you have Sneaky Fingers.
- Touch a Laser Unless you have Graceful or you do not have weapons in your inventory (it only has blue lasers).
- Being detected by a Security Cam (if you don't have Camera Shy), destroying it, or failing a disarm attempt (50%)
- A Slum Dweller hired to causing a Ruckus.
- Shoot any weapon without a silencer.
- Hack an Arcade Game or a Television to make noise.
Traits[ | ]
Secret Vandalizer and Sneaky Fingers cancel noise from hitting walls or filling the Operating Bar and Camera Shy and Graceful cancel the detection of the Lasers and the Security Cam.
The EarWarp Whistle makes all NPCs on the level unable to hear the noise for 60 seconds, but be careful because they can still see you, and the Silencer is fused to any firearm so they don't make noise when fired.
Tips and strategies[ | ]
- Do not cause noise inside a Hideout or the owners and the Goons, in addition to going to where the noise is, will investigate almost the entire building.
- You can hit the wall so that the NPCs face that direction and you can use some special ability that requires the NPC to have their backs, such as Chloroform Hankie, Bite, etc...
- Some NPCs give more importance to some sounds than others, for example Slum Dweller will not give importance to the noise of a broken door but Cops will.
- An irritated NPC's Dialog will alarm NPCs aligned with it.
