Threatening is a game mechanic related to the RNG and Dialog option in Streets of Rogue. The player can select this option to demand something from an NPC — "or else". Demands can be a quest item, money, and so forth.
Modifiers[ | ]
The possibility of threat is affected by certain values:
- The threat is increased by:
- The weapon drawn and the state of it.
- The size of your group.
- Your luck.
- The threat is reduced by:
- The NPC's stats.
- The weapon that the NPC wields.
- The number of people aligned with the NPC.
How to threaten[ | ]
In a normal gameplay, you can only threaten to neutralize someone from a "Neutralize someone" quest or get a item from the Retrieve Item quest.
But with Mugger you can threaten anyone for money or valuables and with Extortionist you can "shake down" whit business owners.
If a threat is successful, the objective with which the threat is made will be carried out (if it is to neutralize someone, the NPC will leave the city, if it is to extort, the extortion will be executed correctly, etc...), but if the threat otherwise fails, the NPC and all the people aligned with it will turn hostile towards you.
Traits[ | ]
These traits modify threaten chance:
(Both are traits of the Mobster)
Tips for threatening[ | ]
- If you use a character that can get a large army, it is recommended to first threaten then attack (if the threat fails).
- If the threat has little chance of working, it is better to skip the threat to avoid being surrounded.
- Throwing 30 coins into a Well almost guarantees a successful threat.
- In Downtown and Uptown better leave the threat for later if you can't make a bribe.
