Backstory
"Sucks people's blood not out of absolute necessity, but is actually just a really picky eater. This pickiness extends to the Vampire's social circles. Recently overheard: "Why does this zombie keep texting me to hang out? It's like, dude, just cause we're both undead doesn't mean we're besties. All you do is whine about politics.""

The Vampire is a both an NPC and a playable character. They wear classic vampire attire.

They are unlocked by destroying 20 gravestones in a single run.

NPC[]

Vampires appear in the Park, Downtown, and Uptown. In the Park, they often spawn in cabins or wandering around outside; in Uptown, they usually spawn in Houses or Mansions. They can also appear in a cage at the Zoo.

Walking past a Vampire may provoke it to use Bite, draining their victim's blood; they target both NPCs and players. Unlike the Thief, the Vampire doesn't become Hostile and doesn't run away; they will walk away calmly after draining some blood from their victim. However, characters Aligned with the victim that witness the attack will become Hostile toward the vampire and will attack them in retaliation, turning the Vampire Hostile toward the original victim as well. Vampire attacks are illegal like any other kind of assault, and will also turn Cops and Supercops against them. Vampires do not target Robots or characters with the Electronic trait, since they lack blood to drain.

Tips and Strategies[]

Playable[]

  • How to fight: Against single enemies, open with Bite if you are not at full health. However, if you have to fight a group or know that more enemies will appear, focus on melee combat using your strength and speed. You aren't great with Firearms, but you should still use them in situations where they are a better option than melee.
  • How to finish a mission: The Vampire works well as a stealthy character. You need to attack from behind to use Bite. You can also invade hideouts casually as Camera Shy allows you to traverse hideouts without worrying about Security Cameras. You can use this to your advantage to sneak up on Goons and other guards within the hideout, or simply sneak by them.
  • Out of combat, Bite allows Vampires to recover health much more reliably than most other classes, which means that you can take a lot more risks. During combat, however, it is very difficult to get behind an opponent, and since you don't have access to most ordinary forms of healing items, you probably won't be recovering much health mid-combat. Try to avoid drawn-out fights and run away if necessary.
  • Bite is considered an assault, so Cops, as well as anyone allied with the NPC you bit, will attack you if they catch you. It will also cause some NPCs that would normally be okay with murder to become Annoyed with you. Some NPCs are still relatively safe targets, however. Slum Dwellers and Upper Crusters are especially good targets to eat, as they are plentiful and often walk the streets alone.
  • In Uptown, the Vampire is safe from getting deported and getting items confiscated by Cop Bots, and doesn't have to worry when passing by them, thanks to Camera Shy. Cop Bots will still become Hostile and attack you if you commit a crime or attack another officer in their line of sight.
  • You can ask a Doctor to administer a Blood Bag for you up to three times per level, then recover the lost health by biting people. You can also buy one per level from a Loadout-O-Matic. As long as you have the Jugularious trait, you can heal yourself with these blood bags.
  • If in a plant you have a bad Electability, you can use your starning Cologne and greatly increase your electability.

NPC[]

  • Vampires are a very dangerous nuisance as they will Bite anyone to drain their blood, draining 21 HP from their victim. Any Vampire will do this, not just those wandering the streets. They appear frequently in the Park and sometimes spawn in Downtown and Uptown. Avoid getting seen by them or take them out.
    • Unlike NPC Thieves trying to steal from you, attacking a Vampire that's attempting to bite you before they do so is not considered self defense, and Cops witnessing the fight will count your actions as "Assault", becoming Hostile toward you. It's best to avoid Vampires in areas where there are police patrolling unless you are Above the Law.
    • Characters with low Endurance such as the Hacker, the Thief or the Assassin should be especially careful around them; they are extremely dangerous for all characters if the Low Health For All mutator is active, as they can take a huge chunk of your health or even outright kill you.
    • The Vampires won't bite you if they are Friendly, Loyal or Aligned towards you. As a result, the Bartender doesn't have to worry about getting bitten thanks to Charismatic making them Friendly.
    • Vampires will always try to bite you if you are playing as a Werewolf or if you have the Werewolf Transformation ability on your custom character, as Vampires and Werewolves are Rivals.
  • Vampires have 4 Speed and 3 Melee, which allows them to deal decent damage with their bare hands in fist fights and even catch up to slower characters. However, their low Endurance means that they won't last too long in a fight.
  • The Ghost Gibber is very effective against them; it is especially helpful in the Park, where there can be a large number of them.
